Understanding Composing

S: What is being said on the article is very true from constructing an idea to actually writing it down on paper. Most of the time when writing just to write for school you actually look back to what you are writing and you use the method of plan-write-revise which leaves out many of the ideas that were being thought but not mention. Writing freely might help those ideas free themselves into paper which would actually see the person’s point of view. I also got from the text how what the author Sandra Perl called projective structuring. It said that many writers don’t necessarily write what they want but rather they write what they want others to hear. (Sondra Perl pg.368) That is very true when writing I always try to get the topic and sometimes make it simple rather than try to see what the topic is really asking. I understand that writing is a process but sometimes that process can get a little complicating. The article did explain how one feels when writing and described from the most simplest form of thinking of writing to the most complicated way at looking at writing. This article gave some confidence by showing me that not only I feel the way I do when I write but everyone that writes feels in a similar way when writing.

Q What does the author mean by “the basic process begins with paying attention”? How do you think your “felt sense” initiated?

R You always have to pay attention to what the topic is talking about. Most of the time since we are asked in school to write about something you just want to get it over with so you don’t really look into what the topic is really asking so you don’t really know what to write and you have a harder time writing. You need to focus or how the author said pay attention to have a better understanding of the topic and as a result make it easier on yourself to write. The first step to writing is to have a better understanding of the topic and then you can base the rest on something from past experience. “Felt sense” is more like you are writing from experiences and sometimes even from what you believe and you can easily build up on that. You need to keep the focus of what you trying to say or you are going to either lose the reader or confuse the reader. It is important that when “felt sense” is initiated that you go along with what you are trying to say. You can make sure by going back and seeing if you have gone off topic and if you did try to fix it up. Many people have their “felt sense” different since some people tend to initiate it from their stomachs but other just feel the right time to start writing but what is important is trying to keep that sense to help them better explain themselves.

  2. i agree with your response. its always good to go back and review what you have written. It gives you a good idea how to continue the story.

  4. Your response makes since to me. looking back to study the topic first and then going from that point really makes a difference.

  5. I agree with you 100% it is so true...i myself would do that sometimes just write whatever to get it over with. It is also true that you need to go back and read what you wrote and really understand the topic you are writing about.
