Peer Response: Teaching Specific Revision Suggestions
S: This article made by Gloria A. Neubert and Sally J. McNelis explains their worries about high school and college students not writing good essays. As they expressed their concerns they both try to solve the problem by asking students what they needed in order to write a good project, students responded that the articles that were given to them did not offered substantial help in order for them to respond effectively.
Both authors Neubert and McNelis got in a conclusion. The conclusion consisted in bringing out a solution to their concern that will totally benefit students and teachers too. The solution consisted in making a technique where student´s writing was easier as well as teacher´s writing. The two authors, Neubert and McNelis made and organization called PQP, (Praise-Question-Polish). The technique totally changed the way of writing PQP, consisted in two to three students per group, one had to read while the others listened and analyzed what the student was reading; at the end they praised something good for the reading, then the group asked someone a question about what he or she read and if they did not understand. After they polished, they asked the reader what he or she will do in order to give more power to his or her writing, this procedure it is what they call PQP.
The technique that Neubert and McNelis inverted it is how is being teach in middle school students since in middle school is when ones learn to write. PQP can be used in a class activity or individually, it will not matter which way someone use it both are effective. With this technique students will make become better writers and listeners plus will totally help them succeed in life.
Q: How is PQP technique described in the article? Why is it important to have praise, questions and polish parts?
R: PQP it´s explained very simple, I mean it comes in steps, the ones you totally need to follow in order to get the job done. By following PQP as it was written in the article it will totally make you a good writer, that is why is important to follow each and every step. PQP it´s explained as an easy technique to learn a better way of writing and listening.
PQP is made of three simple steps but first you need a team of two to four people. One person reads and the rest listen and then ask question about what it was read and by those questions you will write a better article. Praise, question and polish like I said before are three simple steps that will absolutely change the way you write but if you fail to follow one of them things will change like, not succeeding as a good writer. The first step called praise asks what is good about someone´s writing, what should not be changed? And why is it good? Tough questions, but it would help expand the mind and change your way of writing by making you support your work. The second step is question, as a reader, what you do not understand?; as a listener you will ask the reader what you did not understand about the article that way you will have a better point of view as a listener. The last but not least part of the PQP is polish, what specific suggestion for improvement can you make?, after the last two steps this one will be the easiest one, why? Because by this time you will already know what is missing in your article, polish asks you what you would change in order to make you a successful writer.
PQP it´s important following all steps that will totally change your way of writing and will make you write more effectively.
