SQR 3

Nancy Sommers Revision Strategies of Student Writers and Experienced Adult Writers, College Composition and Communication, Vol. 31, No.4 (Dec.1980), Pg 378-388

In the article the writer Nancy Sommers explains that while we write everybody has their own
technique. They use an idea called the linear model which is a process which has two parts to it while
writing with it. One understanding is that it is based on traditional rhetorical model. It was created to
serve for out spoken art (sommers pg.378) .The second part is concerned mainly with writers discourse
for the way Edward Corbett rearranged. He revised the way Britton’s technique. The linear model is
preferably used as a writing technique but if revised to t many times the point of the linear model is lost
and the rest of the essay makes no sense. When the experiment was conducted students understood
what was supposed to be written but some just looked over what they wrote and fixed it eventually
they stop revising it because they violated too much.

Q: If the student feel inspired if the writing comes easily and they don’t get stuck on individual word or phrase then they say that they cannot see any reason to revise.

When a student works on an essay they don’t feel comfortable with they write it and then they go back
and kind of revise it to make sure it makes some sense when someone else who read it. Some people
just go back make sure they didn’t make any mistakes on what they wrote like punctuation, vocabulay,
or just grammar errors. At the end they will just turn it in to the teacher and see what kind of grade it
comes in with and they would probably want to do the corrections after that to make a better grade.
When a student who likes what the topic or the assignment they go all out on what they write
like it comes naturally to them because they can relate to it like a memory. But the thing is when they
write they don’t realize that they what kind of mistakes they can make while writing but in there
mentality they think they did well because they knew what to write and it doesn’t need revising. The
thing is when you think your paper doesn’t need any revising they are actually wrong because when you
relate to the topic and you think everything is good in reality you are more venerable to make mistakes
and not notice them till someone else reads your story. Then you think that you knew it so why would
there be mistake so you recheck it. It is always good to recheck your work before you turn it in and make
sure that it makes sense while writing. If your paper comes with some suggestions take them in and try
to use them as an advantage it more help for the writer. So when you write anything essays, stories or
anything that deals with writing make sure you go back revise it you never know you can do mistakes.
