S.Q.R.

S.

Ann, a teacher of writing, is part of a group who were taking a course in research and basic writing at New York University. Here, Sondra Perl focuses on one of Ann’s assignments, which is to tape their thoughts while composing aloud on the topic, “My Most Anxious Moment as a Write.” After reviewing the tape, Ann observes and notes that she can detect basic patterns of going back, rereading, and writing or recursiveness. Another pattern she detected was a feeling of felt sense, which is the way a writer physically feels while producing their paper. Most writers do not know when their felt sense is being used due to the fact that their more focused on writing their paper but when people do, they usually feel it in their stomach. The cycle we work in is composing and recomposing our meanings and what they mean. Ann can conclude that writing is more “complex” then she thought.

Q.

How do you relate the description of “felt sense” in the reading with your own experience

R.

Felt Sense can be defined in many ways, from they way you feel inside and out or the way u react to what you have written. When I am given a topic, I always come up with a good memory, it just pops up! I have many memories from good ones to really bad ones, and when it comes to sad topics I can go on forever! One of the topics I remember was in 8th grade, it was “ Write about a time in your life that you remember like it was yesterday,” so I wrote about my dad. As soon as she said this topic, instantly I can hear my mom and dad arguing while im trying to sleep, during this essay I felt down and full of sorrow and also had a couple tears running down my face. I guess you can say that was my “Felt Sense”
