Peer Response: Teaching Specific Revision Suggestions
Gloria A. Neubert and Sally J. McNelis; “Peer Response: Teaching Specific Revision Suggestions”; The English Journal, Vol. 79, No. 5 (Sept., 1990), pp. 52-56
Summary:
Clear comments are not given to writers because they only suggest what is on their minds. Gloria and Sally had organized a group to use a technique called, "PQP" (Praise-Question-Polish). Which would help them give writers effective comments on their responses. With that, the writer can fix the problem of his response by you giving him useful comments. Give him very specific comments the kind of comments you would want other readers to write on yours for help. The more none detailed comments will not help the reader improve on his response to the question asked. In other words help the writer improve though the comments you write. Don’t try to do it alone to find the right words or comments to use, you go though steps in order for yourself to improve in posting comments. Work though the process of doing it in class first, group activity, individual work, and then the next day you do it on your own to see if you improved or not. Always give the writer you honest opinion and always have a positive attitude. They Guarantee that you will improve your commenting skills, if you follow the "critique process" of PQP.
Question:
Why “Peer Response?” What can peers' comments do for one's writing?
“Peer Response” will always be helpful to the writer. Someone else's opinion may just take you one step closer to your success. Your peers comments may be different than what you had in mind about the question, but they do help. They see your weaknesses as a writer though your response. You may have one perspective of the question, but others have something different.
As it states in the article by Gloria Newbert and Sally McNelis; Peer Response, helps... “students to analyze comments to effectiveness ones, and list characteristics of effective responses.” Your peers should try to help you improve by leaving comment’s that are useful. The comments your peers leave should help you as a writer, improve your writing skills. Positive and negative comments should always be excepted so you know you good and bad from your writing.
As for me, when I leave comments to my peers, I ask questions, so they know that their was some trouble understanding with what they wrote. For that, I am help them see my point of view of the response. There is never a right or wrong answer when it comes to giving you own opinion. So except any comments that may or may not help you, but consider them.
I briefly understand what your pointof view of the response is I find it intresting reading through it and I understand it very well.
